Jake Dolsey has always enjoyed writing for fun, publishing short works in local anthologies and being an active part in the town creative writing community for a number of years.

The 27-year-old has written short stories, poems and even a murder mystery, until he recently released his first book, The Space Between Heaven and Hell.

The story is one of redemption, self-discovery and overcoming adversity, with a hint of horror and murder thrown in for good measure.

It sees the character Annie awaken in a hospital bed but she can’t remember how she got there.

She casts her mind back to the night before which involved a party, and she remembers gunshots, the “shadow man” and her daughter.

The gathering saw friends and strangers join rich businessman Hugh Black to celebrate his new unveiling, but the night is soon turned from laughter and dancing to screaming and rushing for the exit.

Annie is left with the choice of either saving herself and the lovers, cheaters and the cruel, or to let the hell inside their hearts eat them alive.

Jake, from Hindley, who writes under the pen name Jay Darkmoore, said: “The book is a thriller with a supernatural aspect.

“It is centred on rich businessman, Hugo Black, who has ties and friends with the characters in the book.

“Each one is connected to him and each other.

“They have been spurned throughout their lives and it causes them to do reprehensible things.

“There is one character who lied about the death of her child, when in fact she was a heroin addict and the child had become exposed to drugs.

“She asked the businessman to help her to cover this up which he has done.

“There are also affairs and bad relationships which feature in the book.”

The dad-of-one said the novel had gone down well so far, with more than 300 downloads.

He said: “I’m getting really good reviews for it and hopefully it can continue.

“I’ve always enjoyed writing so I’m delighted to be able to publish my debut novel.

“I have lived in Wigan for the past 15 years and this is my home. I think the people of Wigan would be happy to see someone from their own town showing off their talent to the wider world.”

The Space Between Heaven and Hell is available on Amazon, with an e-book costing £2.99 and a paper copy £6.99.
