Adrian Lam wants 'happy balance' amid calls for tighter lockdown rules

But he hopes a “happy balance” can be struck to prevent a full-on lockdown on their movements until the season finishes at the end of November.

Hull FC won’t play this weekend because 12 of their players and staff tested positive, while Salford - their opponents last weekend - were also stood down, despite no positive tests. Huddersfield coach Simon Woolford and Catalans star Sam Tomkins are among those who have suggested more could be done by players and staff to reduce the risk of them being infected by Covid-19, and jeoparding future matches.

Lam said: “In the NRL they can’t really leave the home.

“If we need to go into the same levels as the NRL we will, we’ll have to. And players, it’s their job, we’d be happy to to make sure it works one way or the other.

“But I think there should be a happy balance. You’ve got to remember the players have been on furlough, their wages have been cut.

“I understand for our competition to retain its integrity, for every club to play every week, some of the measures may need to increase.

“But the government is relaxing some of the laws and that’s a positive sign - but it’s not a positive Hull have tested positive. We need to play the games, and if we need to sacrifice some things we will.”

Wigan’s game against Leeds today (kick-off 6.30pm) was put back 24 hours from its original slot, while some other sides had their opposition switched during the week, after the Hull tests.
