Two saddle-sore Wigan friends have completed an epic 1,000-mile bike ride down the length of the country, raising £4,000 for charity in the process.

Emily Morris and Laura Molloy made it to Land’s End after setting off from John O’Groats 17 days ago.

They have been raising money for Motor Neurone Disease in memory of Emily’s grandmother, who died of the condition.

The pair, who both work in the NHS, have been friends since their days at St Marie’s RC Primary School in Standoish and Orrell St Peter’s High and stopped off in their home town of Standish to see their parents - Pauline and Mark Morris and Bernie and Jane Molloy - half way into their journey.

Pauline said: “It was hard going at times - they were lucky with the weather though.

“They are very tired now but both so proud of themselves for raising so much for a worthwhile charity.”
