Flat attack victim fights for her life
Police and paramedics were called to a flat at Bradshaigh House, Swinley, on Wednesday evening after receiving reports of an assault there.
Neighbours have since said they heard screams coming from the apartment off Upper Dicconson Street.

Hide AdOfficers say that a woman of 44 was found at the scene. She had been assaulted then suffered cardiac arrest. She was taken the short distance to Wigan Infirmary where she was admitted to the intensive care unit where her condition was described as critical but stable.
A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Witnesses reported police vehicles and ambulances at the flats at around 6.30pm onwards on Wednesday. One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “We have had trouble at these flats before but nothing like this. I feel really sorry for the lady. I hope she’s going to be all right.”
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “A woman is in a critical condition after a serious assault in Wigan. Shortly before 6.30pm, police were called to Bradshaigh House, Graysons Close, to reports of an assault. Officers attended and found a 44-year-old woman had suffered a cardiac arrest. She was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

The spokesman said that due to the condition of the woman, officers had not yet been able to interview her. He said there did not appear to be weapons involved.
