Wigan girl, 5, launches new recycling campaign
Adorable budding environmentalist Ember McNamara, five, is the star of Wigan Council’s new recycling campaign and talks in a video about the importance of looking after the planet.
Ember regularly does litter picks in the Haigh Plantations as she is extremely concerned wildlife could be injured by litter left thoughtlessly around.

Coun Carl Sweeney, cabinet member for environment, said: “Ember’s passion for looking after the environment is a reminder to us all that what we do now will impact on future generations.
“We want to do all we can to pass on a cleaner, greener Wigan borough to our young people.
“Recycling is a really simple thing that everyone can do and we know that schools across the borough are doing fantastic work in creating the next generation of eco-conscious youngsters who know how to recycle and the reason why it is vital to do so.

The council is now encouraging others to recycle more and keep the borough tidy by becoming one of Ember’s Heroes and spreading the word on social media using the hashtag #JoinEmber.
Her parents Dave and Alison said: “We’re both incredibly proud of Ember. She’s instinctively picked up on the litter problem and is learning how to make use of discarded items.
“The council seems very keen to keep the momentum going with what she does, and we are going to continue supporting her efforts with the council to reach out to other families to encourage them to do the same.”
