JUNE

Glastonbury Festival

When: June 26-30

Where: Worthy Farm, Somerset

The most famous music and performing arts festival in the world, featuring top international and local acts across diverse genres. Highlights this year include Dua Lipa, Coldplay and Shania Twain – but there’s so much more to Glasto than just the headliners.

JULY

Wimbledon Championships

When: July 1-14

Where: London, UK

There’s nothing like the thwack-thwack-grunt to signify that summer’s here… if tennis is your thing, then clear your diary to watch the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament, played on grass courts in the heart of south-west London.

The Euros 2024

When: now until July 14

Where: Germany

The 17th edition of the UEFA European Championship features 24 national teams competing across various cities in Germany. Hopes are sky-high that football really could be coming home this summer, meaning some nail-biting games are guaranteed.

Latitude Festival

When: July 18-21

Where: Henham Park, Suffolk

A family-friendly festival that’s a proper melting pot for music, arts and culture; along with superstar legends like Duran Duran, Nile Rodgers & Chic and Rick Astley, there are tons of comedy, theatre and literature performances to take in too.

The Tour de France

When: June 29-July 21

Where: France

The race actually starts in Florence just over the border, squiggling all over France before ending in Paris just before the Olympic torch arrives. This is the 111th edition of the prestigious cycling race, in which Giro d'Italia winner Tadej Pogačar will take on Primož Roglič, Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel.

AUGUST

The Summer Olympics

When: July 26-August 11

Where: Paris, France

The world’s largest sporting event is coming to Paris, and from the opening ceremony onwards it promises shedloads of excitement as well as incredible sporting prowess. Costing an eye-watering €8.3bn, Paris 2024 will be the first to feature an identical number of men and women athletes – plus it's the year that breakdancing makes its debut as an Olympic sport!

Edinburgh Festival Fringe

When: August 2-26

Where: Edinburgh, Scotland

The world's largest arts festival offers a vast array of performances including theatre, comedy, dance, and music: expect outlandish action and to be surprised at every turn. And this is one place where you don’t have to shell out a lot to have fun, with 354 free shows and 577 pay-what-you-can shows on the programme.

Reading and Leeds Festivals

When: August 23-25

Where: Bramham Park, Leeds and Richfield Avenue, Reading

If you’re into rock, alternative, and indie music, these twin music festivals have a belter of a line-up for 2024, including Liam Gallagher, Blink 182, Gerry Cinnamon, Lana Del Rey, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Fred Again…

Notting Hill Carnival

When: August 25-26

Where: Notting Hill, London

More free fun is on the cards at this banging street festival over the August bank holiday weekend, celebrating Caribbean culture (and basslines) with colourful parades, great music, and fantastic food.
